If you aren't familiar with his Erwitt's work, click here. Then, if you can tear yourself away his incredible images, on Saturday you can head to the Catherine Couturier Gallery for the opening of a career retrospective exhibit. The exhibition, Elliot Erwitt: Master Class, will run through May 25 at the gallery (formerly John Cleary Gallery).
Mentioning the celebrities that Erwitt has photographed does not begin to define the breadth, wit and timelessness of his work. Influenced by Edward Steichen, Robert Capa, and Roy Stryker early in his career, the French-born Erwitt distinguished himself both as a documentary and commercial photographer, has exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide and has published more than 20 books. In 2011 he was awarded the International Center of Photography’s Infinity Award for Lifetime Achievement.
The exhibit opens Saturday with a 6-8 p.m. reception at the Upper Kirby District gallery.
